Desalination Capacity

The International Desalination Association (IDA) reported in its Desalination Yearbook (2009-2010) that the contracted capacity of desalination plants in the world has reached 68.5 million m³/day (18 billion gal/day). The estimate was based on an inventory of 14,754 desalination plants wordwide with capacity larger than 100 m³/day (0.026 millions gallonwd). The report listed Reverse Osmosis as the most common desalination technology.
